A French Adventure, EDAM EP made by the talented producers DLJ, ØDYSSEE and Bastien Brison.
Collaborations have been the cornerstone in music for ages. It has have always been the key to creating something unique and special. It doesn’t only bring together different styles and influences but also allow artists to learn from each other’s creative process and push their boundaries & limits.
In recent years, I would say we have seen a shift towards more remote collaborations – The rise of digital technology has made it easier than ever for artists to collaborate with each other, regardless of their location. While remote collaborations have their benefits, nothing beats the experience of collaborating with other artists in person. In this article, we’ll explore how a collaboration in the same place outshines just sending e-mails to each other to create music, using EDAM EP made by these incredible beatmakers, as an example.
This is also something highlighted before in our travellings with the ninetofive in different locations to work on projects, I truly think this is an important view & mindset to create art together.
ØDYSSEE: It was great to be able to make music in person again with my friend DLJ and also meet with Bastien Brison, a great jazz pianist from Paris with whom DLJ already made some releases with in the past. It was such a bliss to have this week of session in Edam with the homies Félix (DLJ) and Bastien. It’s always a great feeling to spend some time in an unknown place, setting up the little studio and be dedicated to music production for a bit. We were surrounded by nature, the water canal was flowing in front of the house, we had some fishing time and strolls in between the sessions to calm the mind.
The trio travelled to the city EDAM in the Netherlands which convenientally is the name of their EP, which features a mix of jazz, soul, and electronic music. Their unique sound is a result of the fusion of different styles and influences, which they have blended seamlessly into their music. Together, they have created a sound that is both soulful and modern. Their music is a reflection of their diverse backgrounds and experiences, which they have brought to the project. A fusion of different styles and influences has resulted in a sound that is both soulful and modern, making their music a must-listen for any lover of beats.
DLJ: EDAM to me, is a very special project in which we put a lot of energy and love ! I met with Bastien Brison, a French jazz pianist and producer about a year and a half ago, at a jazz concert on a boat in Paris. Not long after, we produced our first tracks together (Discovery, Madness…) and I contacted ØDYSSEE for a feature on one of these. ØDYSSEE is a long time friend and we wanted to meet again in a different place for making some music, and the idea came to invite Bastien to join us ! The release has been put on the great homies over at Retro Jungle Records, make sure to check them out.
We decided to go on a small journey for a kind of music residency with Bastien and ØDYSSEE in the Netherlands, and the inspiration we found in this small village of EDAM was unique ! We brought all the material needed for music and enjoyed our time in a lovely house alongside a canal. Starting ideas from scratch in this particular place put us in a productive mood and special tracks like « Marjolein » or « Feeba » came out of nowhere, during late night sessions and that is an incredible feeling ! I’m blessed for this opportunity we had to put together this 7 track EP, with a beautiful artwork by Alexander Plesovskich as well !
